31: Het Nijlpaard Schoonheidssalon - Dutch
This Fable takes an in-depth look at symbiosis between cohabiting species. We describe the three fish which take care of the hippo’s hygiene needs. This phenomenon is called Commensalism! This Fable suggests that preventive health care does not have to be laborious, it can be joyful and rely on a social system within a community. We’re asked to become increasingly aware that there are millions of invisible living species which are responsible for keeping our bodies in balance. The desire to just kill all that we do not understand has lead to the elimination of many of those balancing organisms and without them our health suffers.
This Fable is inspired by Mark Deeble & Victoria Stone who produced a magnificent film: Mzima: Haunt of the Riverhorse, which documents rarely seen hippo behavior. Production of the film for National Geographic required two years of extremely difficult fieldwork and filmmaking challenges beyond the imagination.
